The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn recently launched a new blog at www.cmoaklawn.wordpress.com.
“Our goal with the blog is to provide interesting and educational information to parents, grandparents and caregivers,” museum executive director Adam Woodworth said. “A lot of people think of the museum as nothing more than an inside playground, but we are much, much more than that.
“The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn is a nonprofit organization with the mission to positively impact a child’s potential in life through play-based education.”
Woodworth said every exhibit and program ties into Illinois Learning Standards (now called Common Core), the same standards the state requires local school districts to use in setting classroom curriculum.
The blog already has had two guest bloggers — Karen Olalde, clinical director at Bridges to a New Day; and Allie Bowles, wife of “MasterChef” judge Graham Elliot.
Woodworth also said the blog introduces the museum to people who might not know about it.
“Many people don’t realize that we are a nonprofit organization. While a little over 70 percent of our operating revenue comes from paid admission and memberships, the rest has to be fundraised through the generosity of visitors, members, donors and other supporters,” he said.
