Here is a look at some crowd pleasers.

Events include the Smiley Tillmond Band in Back to the Delta: A Blues Showcase at the Beverly Arts Center in Chicago.

ART

THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO: 111 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, (312) 443-3600: Exhibits include “Of Gods and Glamour: The Mary and Michael Jaharis Galleries of Greek, Roman, and Byzantine Art” to Nov. 27, 2015.

Admission is free to Illinois residents from 5-8 p.m. Thursdays.

BEVERLY ARTS CENTER’S ATRIUM GALLERY: 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago, (773) 445-3838: “Andros: Paintings by Timothy R. Collins” will be displayed to May 26. The exhibit is a series of paintings based on Andros Island, Bahamas, where the artist worked from August 2011 to June.

COMEDY

RIDDLES COMEDY CLUB: 5055 W. 111th St., Alsip, (708) 422-5055: Brian Aldridge will perform on May 24-25.

MUSEUMS

ADLER PLANETARIUM: 1300 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 922-7827: “Cosmic Wonder” recently opened. Other exhibits include “The Universe: A Walk Through Space and Time,” “Our Solar System,” “Collecting Memories: The Webster Story,” “Planet Explorers” for families with ages 3-8, “Telescopes: Through the Looking Glass,” and “Shoot for the Moon.”

THE FIELD MUSEUM: 1400 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 922-9410: Exhibits include “Images of the Afterlife” to June 9, “Living with Wolves” to July 7, “Scenes from the Stone Age: The Cave Paintings of Lascaux” to Sept. 8 and “Creatures of Light: Nature’s Bioluminescence”to Jan. 5.

MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY: 57th Street and Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (773) 684-1414: “Animal Inside Out” recently debuted and will run through Sept. 2. Other exhibits include “Science Storms,” “YOU! The Experience,” “The Great Train Story” and the Baby Chick Hatchery.

There also are daily live science demonstrations like the chemistry show “Bangs, Flashes and Fire.”

SHEDD AQUARIUM: 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 939-2438: “Stingray Touch” recently opened and runs to October. Other exhibits include “Jellies,” which has been extended through 2013, “Waters of the World,” “Caribbean Reef,” “Amazon Rising,” “Wild Reef” and the Polar Play Zone.

Attractions include the Shedd’s aquatic show.

PLAYING LIVE

BACK TO THE DELTA: A BLUES SHOWCASE: Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago, (773) 445-3838: “Diamond” Jim Greene, the Jimmy Burns Band and the Smiley Tillmon Band will perform blues music from the Delta to Chicago at 8 p.m. May 24. Tickets are $19, or $17 for center members.

THEATER

GAELIC PARK PLAYERS HOSTS ACTING IRISH INTERNATIONAL THEATRE FESTIVAL: Chicago Gaelic Park, 6119 W. 147th St., Oak Forest, (708) 687-9323: This 20th annual fest is taking place concurrently with the venue’s annual Memorial Day weekend Irish Fest. May 24-25 tickets are $15 and include admission to the Irish Fest grounds and vice versa.

Performances will be at 2 and 8 p.m. May 24 and 1 and 7 p.m. May 25. An awards ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. May 26.

The festival will feature eight theater companies from Ireland, Canada and the United States performing full-length Irish plays in competition.

On May 24 in the afternoon, Cincinnati’s Irish American Theater Group will stage a Brian Friel classic and a Tony winner, “Dancing at Lughnasa” In the evening, Milwaukee Irish Arts will present “Eclipsed” by Patricia Burke Brogan.

May 25 will begin at 1 p.m. with “Here We Are Again Still” presented by the Irish Theatre of Florida, and 2012’s champion, the Liffey Players Drama Society from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, will cap the festival with a performance of Martin MacDonagh’s “The Beauty Queen of Leenane” at 7 p.m.

VARIETY

BACINEMA SCREENING OF “QUARTET”: Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago, (773) 445-3838: The weekly film series continues with this screening at 7:30 p.m. May 29. Rated PG-13, the movie runs for 1 hour and 38 minutes. Tickets are $7.50, or $5.50 for center members.

CELEBRATION OF CHICAGO ARTISTS AWARD SHOW: Governors State University’s Center for Performing Arts, off University Parkway east of Governors Highway, University Park, (708) 235-2222: Narski Music & SmoothJazzChicago.net will present this event hosted by Rick O’Dell at 7 p.m. May 25. The show will feature Vanessa Holmes, comedian Ron Baker Jr., Michael Manson, Joan Collaso, Chris Allison, Carlos Cannon, BabiDoll and Jesus Wayne. Those to be honored include Nick Colionne, Herb Kent, Paul Richmond and Darryll King. Tickets are $27 for general admission and $37 for reserved seating.
