Here is a look at some crowd pleasers.

Suggestions include the Celebration of Winter at Coyote Run Golf Course in Flossmoor.

ART

THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO: 111 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, (312) 443-3600: Exhibits include “Of Gods and Glamour: The Mary and Michael Jaharis Galleries of Greek, Roman, and Byzantine Art” to Nov. 27, 2015. Admission is free to Illinois residents from 5-8 p.m. Thursdays.

PRAIRIE STATE COLLEGE’S CHRISTOPHER ART GALLERY: 202 S. Halsted St., Chicago Heights, (708) 709-3500: “Convergence” will be on display from Jan. 6-30. The exhibit, which features works by PSC faculty, highlights the sabbatical work of professor Paul Rinaldi and work by George Kassal, Lou Shields, Rebecca Slagel, Jeff Stevenson, Valerie Taglieri and Tim Vitek. There will be a reception from 4-7 p.m. Jan. 30.

MUSEUMS

ADLER PLANETARIUM: 1300 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 922-7827: Exhibits include “Cosmic Wonder,” “The Universe: A Walk Through Space and Time,” “Our Solar System,” “Collecting Memories: The Webster Story,” “Planet Explorers” for families with ages 3-8, “Telescopes: Through the Looking Glass,” and “Shoot for the Moon.”

THE FIELD MUSEUM: 1400 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 922-9410: Exhibits include “Creatures of Light: Nature’s Bioluminescence” to Jan. 5.

MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY: 57th Street and Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (773) 684-1414: “Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light” is on display to Jan. 5. Other exhibits include “Science Storms,” “YOU! The Experience,” “The Great Train Story” and the Baby Chick Hatchery. There also are daily live science demonstrations like the chemistry show “Bangs, Flashes and Fire.”

SHEDD AQUARIUM: 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 939-2438: Exhibits include “Waters of the World,” “Caribbean Reef,” “Amazon Rising,” “Wild Reef” and the Polar Play Zone. Attractions include the Shedd’s aquatic show.

VARIETY

BAC CINEMA SCREENING OF “IN A WORLD”: Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago, (773) 445-3838: The weekly film series resumes with this 7:30 p.m. Jan. 8 event. Rated R for language, this film runs for 1 hour and 33 minutes. Cost is $7.50, or $5.50 for center members.

CELEBRATION OF WINTER: Coyote Run Golf Course, 800 Kedzie Ave., Flossmoor, (708) 957-8700: Homewood-Flossmoor Park District hosts this free event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 4. Activities include a bonfire, cross-country skiing, hayrides, winter bingo, food, sled dog mushing question-and-answer sessions, pictures with a sled dog and a snowball accuracy throw. There also will be skating from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the H-F Ice Arena.
