Bariatric Support Group: Silver Cross Hospital in partnership with BMI Surgery will host a free bariatric support group for people who have undergone weight loss surgery. Wellness Wednesday: Orland Township is hosting Wellness Wednesday 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. June 27 in the Orland Township Activity Center, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park. Residents can have their blood pressure and blood sugar checked. A basic cholesterol screening is offered for $5 and the test requires a 12-hour fast. Free hearing screenings are also available with an appointment. Additionally, biophotonic scanning to determine the presence of skin carotenoid antioxidants is available for $20. Baseline Cardiac Risk Assessment: Find out if you are at risk for heart disease with a baseline cardiac risk assessment at Silver Cross Hospital, 1900 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox; Silver Cross Health Center, 12701 W. 143rd St., Homer Glen; or the Silver Cross Center for Women’s Health, 1870 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. The screening includes measurements of total cholesterol including HDL and LDL, blood glucose, triglycerides, blood pressure and body fat; a 12-lead EKG; and a lifestyle evaluation. Calcium Artery Scoring: Silver Cross Hospital offers a test using a high-speed CT scanner that can measure calcium deposits in the coronary arteries to determine risk of having a heart attack. Calcium artery scoring is for men 45 and older and women 55 and older who smoke, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol or a family history of premature coronary artery disease. Cost is $200. Smoking Cessation Program: Smokers who want to quit the habit can take advantage of a seven-week smoking cession program offered July 10 to Aug. 21 at Advocate Christ Medical Center, 4440 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn.
