Scoliosis Screening: A spine surgeon will offer free scoliosis screenings 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays in July at the Silver Cross Health Center, 12701 W. 143rd St., Homer Glen. The screenings are available for children and adults. Registration: (877) 694-7722.

Shoulder, Knee and Hip Pain: Hear about solutions for shoulder, knee and hip pain at a free seminar 6 p.m. July 16 at the Matteson Community Center, 20642 Matteson Ave. Free shoulder or knee ultrasound testing will be available to the first 12 registrants Reservations: (800) 221-2199.

Senior Breakfast Club: Area seniors can attend a free presentation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. the third Friday of every other month at the Oak View Community Center, 4625 W. 110th St., Oak Lawn. This program is part of a bi-monthly series of free talks by the Senior Advocate Department. The next meeting will be July 20. The topic will be, “Continuing Care Retirement Communities. Prostate Cancer: A free support and education group for men who have been diagnosed with or treated for prostate cancer and their families will meet at 7 p.m. July 17 in the conference center of Advocate Christ Medical Center, 4440 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn. Information: (800) 323-8622.

Blood Pressure: Silver Cross Hospital offers free blood pressure checks 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily at Silver Cross Health Center, 12701 W. 143rd St., Homer Glen. Information: (708) 364-6337.

Health Fair: Several medical facilities and government agencies will join Community High School District 218 on Aug. 10 in hosting a Back to School Health Fair at Shepard High School, 13049 S. Ridgeland Ave., Palos Heights. The event, which will run noon to 4 p.m., will feature a limited number of free school physicals, free dental exams, and free vision screenings. Other services include school physicals for $40, immunizations for $10 and eye exams for $40. The fair includes free food, drinks and school supplies. For young children, the fair will feature games, a bounce house, a clown and face painting. District 218 will provide free bus service from many locations. Information: www.chsd218.org.

Prevent Back Pain: Dr. Josh Zumstein, a Chicago area physican, recently wrote “Secrets to Preventing Back and Neck Pain: 60 Ways to Protect Your Spine.” He has worked with Division I collegiate and professional athletes, and is the founder of The Back Safety and Wellness Consultants. The book teaches ways to prevent and eliminate back and neck pain, while performing common, everyday tasks including the correct way to get out of bed, get in and out of a car, pick up a child, walk and other activities. Breast Cancer Support Group: The American Cancer Society and Silver Cross Hospital will offer an educational program for women facing breast cancer 7 to 9 p.m. July 24 at the Center for Women’s Health Library, 1870 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. The program covers topics relevant to the cancer experience and offers practical help in coping with some of the emotional issues resulting from a cancer diagnosis.
