Heart Health: Franciscan St. James Health is celebrating its recent Chest Pain Center accreditation with a Heart Health Open House 6:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 24 at its Heart and Vascular Institute, 3800 W. 203rd St., Olympia Fields. Headlining the event will be author, Joe Piscatella, who will talk about healthy lifestyles at 7:15 p.m. The author of 12 books, and frequent television guest, Piscatella will speak on the impact of chronic stress on dietary and exercise compliance. St. James staff cardiologists will discuss “Cardiovascular Care Guidelines”at 6:45 p.m. and “The Cardiologist Is In,” a question and answer session at 8:15 p.m. The evening also will include free screenings for diabetes, cholesterol, peripheral artery disease and carotid artery problems. Freedom From Smoking: The Ingalls Wellness Center will host the American Lung Association’s Freedom From Smoking program 5 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at the wellness center, 2920 W. 183rd St., Homewood. The eight-session program addresses many aspects of quitting smoking such as dealing with roadblocks, nicotine replacement, prescription medications for smoking cessation, weight gain, stress management and alternatives to smoking.
