Gift Drive For Veterans: St. Joseph/St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church, 2453 Oak St., Blue Island, is hosting a holiday potluck party and gift drive for hospitalized and homeless veterans at 4 p.m. Dec. 9. People can bring holiday gifts and survival gear. The gifts will be given to wounded soldiers or homeless veterans at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, Hines VA Hospital, and Manteno VA Hospital. Bring the gifts, unwrapped, with a personal card or note. Blue Christmas: Two Oak Lawn and Evergreen Park churches have teamed up to offer support sessions and a worship experience for people who are struggling with loss or feelings of sadness during the holiday season. Pilgrim Faith United Church of Christ, 9411 S. 51st Ave., Oak Lawn, will offer two free sessions at 2 p.m. Dec. 9 on grieving and at 2 p.m. Dec. 16 on ways to celebrate Christmas when feeling sad.Immanuel United Church of Christ, 9815 S. Campbell, Evergreen Park, will host a Blue Christmas/Longest Night Service at 7 p.m. on the first night of winter, Dec. 21.
