Caring Kids: Children ages 3 to 12 who are expecting a new sibling will learn what happens when mom goes to the hospital and how they can help when the baby comes home during a class from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 12 at Advocate Christ Medical Center, 4440 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn. Postpartum Support Group: A free support group offers resources for new mothers to become more knowledgeable about postpartum depression, its causes and available treatment options. In addition, it also gives mothers the opportunity to talk, listen and share their experiences with other women experiencing similar feelings. Look Good. Feel Better: A free workshop provided by cosmetologists will teach female cancer patients hands-on cosmetic techniques to help restore their appearance and self-image during chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Women learn about makeup techniques, skin care, nail care and options related to hair loss, such as wigs, turbans and scarves. Physician Honored: Palos Medical Group family practice physician Dr. Robert Boll was recognized as a 2012 Patients’ Choice physician. The honor is awarded to doctors as a reflection of their patients’ continued appreciation and praise for the quality of care they provide. Of the nation’s 870,000 active physicians, only 5 percent earned the Patients’ Choice honor, according to a news release issued by the Palos Primary Care Center, 15300 West Ave., Orland Park.
Silver Cross Home Health: Silver Cross recently announced its home health service was named a top agency of the 2012 HomeCare Elite, a compilation of the top-performing home health agencies in the United States. This is the fifth year in a row that the agency has earned the award.
Endocrinologist: Palos Medical Group recently welcomed Dr. Jennifer Zanderan, an endocrinologist , to the Palos Primary Care Center, 15300 West Ave., Orland Park.
Specialized Conditioning: The physical therapy department of Advocate Christ Medical Center, 4440 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn, offers an ongoing program designed to promote physical fitness for people who have experienced a spinal cord injury or disability. Therapists create an independent wheelchair-level exercise program using a wheelchair-accessible weight station. Classes, led by a licensed physical therapist are 4 to 5 p.m. on consecutive Tuesdays and Thursdays in the medical center’s physical therapy gym. Classes are free. Orland Wellness Program: Orland Township residents in need of medical services may purchase a discount Wellness Program voucher during office hours Mondays through Fridays at Orland Township, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park. The program offers services at a discount of up to 50 percent. The services include adult and children’s physicals, podiatry screenings, dental examinations and cleanings, nutrition consultations, vision examinations and chiropractic examinations.
