Freedom From Smoking Program: Palos Community Hospital is offering the American Lung Association’s eight-week freedom from smoking program. Immunization Clinic: Orland Township is hosting its monthly immunization clinic 9 to 11 a.m. Jan. 5 at the township building, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park. Vaccinations offered include DTap, DTap-IPV/Hib, DTap/IPV, DTap/Hep B/IPV, haemophilus b conjugate, Hep A, Hep B, Hep A/B, Hib, HPV, IPV, meningococcal, MMR, pneumococcal, TB, Tdap, TD, varicella, rotavirus and typhoid. Freedom From Smoking: The Will County Health Department will be offering the Freedom From Smoking program 6 to 7:30 p.m. starting Jan. 9 at St. Joseph Medical Center, 333 N. Madison St., Joliet. The program will meet each Wednesday for seven weeks. The cost is $25 per person, which covers program materials. Nicotine patches, gum, or lozenges are available to those who qualify. Prepared Childbirth Class: Silver Cross Hospital will offer a three-week prepared childbirth class 6:30 to 9 p.m. Jan. 10, 17 and 24 at Silver Cross Hospital, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Participants will receive instruction from a registered nurse on breathing, relaxation and floor exercise techniques. She also will review the labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum processes. Specialized Conditioning: The physical therapy department of Advocate Christ Medical Center, 4440 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn, offers an ongoing program designed to promote physical fitness for people who have experienced a spinal cord injury or disability. Therapists create an independent wheelchair-level exercise program using a wheelchair-accessible weight station. Classes, led by a licensed physical therapist are 4 to 5 p.m. on consecutive Tuesdays and Thursdays in the medical center’s physical therapy gym. Classes are free. Emotions Anonymous: A free 12-step program for people who have had or are having emotional difficulties meets 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays at Calvary Lutheran Church, 11249 S. Spaulding Ave., Chicago, and at 11 a.m. Mondays at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 8607 S. Naragansett, Burbank.
Overeaters Anonymous: A free support group for people who are compulsive eaters meets from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesdays at New Spirit Lutheran Church, 8600 S. Kilpatrick, Chicago.
Sharing the Journey: Small group sessions for people who have experienced the death of a significant person in their lives meets 7 to 8:30 p.m. the third Monday of the month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 4660 W. 94th St., Oak Lawn. No registration required.
Orland Wellness Program: Orland Township residents in need of medical services may purchase a discount Wellness Program voucher during office hours Mondays through Fridays at Orland Township, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park. The program offers services at a discount of up to 50 percent. The services include adult and children’s physicals, podiatry screenings, dental examinations and cleanings, nutrition consultations, vision examinations and chiropractic examinations.
