The Southland Theatre Ensemble at Governors State University will perform “Hair” as its 2013 production.
Thirty-five cast members were chosen following recent auditions.
The cast and crew come from 22 communities, mostly in Chicago’s Southland.
Performance dates are July 27 and 28 and Aug. 3 and 4 at Governors State’s Center for Performing Arts, 1 University Parkway, University Park.
“Hair,” first presented in 1967 as “the American Tribal Love Rock Musical,” tells the story of a group of Vietnam-era Americans exuberantly creating their own rite of passage amid the confusion happening in the world around them.
The theater ensemble was established in 2009 as an artistic collaboration between the Center for Performing Arts, local theater educators and veterans of area community theater companies.
The is the ensemble’s fifth summer production.
