Behavioral Program: Ingalls’ behavioral health intensive outpatient program in Flossmoor is marking it’s one-year anniversary. The program helps people struggling with depression caused by an illness, death of a loved one, job loss, divorce or financial difficulties. The short-term behavioral health treatment program for adults is led by medical director Dr. Moises F. Gaviria, professor of psychiatry at the University of Illinois and neuropsychiatrist on staff at Ingalls. The program operates Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon; additional intakes, family therapy, case management and individual therapy occur in the afternoon between 2 and 5 p.m. Information: (708) 915-8600.
Pink Heals: Advocate Christ Medical Center will have a family event to draw attention to women’s cancers with a visit from the Pink Heals (firetruck) Tour and an informational health fair from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 8 in the Christ Medical Center Auditorium Conference Center, 4440 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn. Physicians from Christ Medical Center will present topics specific to the health and wellness of women and the event will feature health information booths about self-breast exam, nutrition, stroke awareness and other topics. There will be Yoga and Zumba every half hour for 20 minutes, chair massages and origami and scrapbooking by Gilda’s Club Chicago. School Physicals: Palos Community Hospital is offering discounted school and sports physicals by board-certified physicians for $40 from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day at the Palos Immediate Care Center, 15300 West Ave., Orland Park. Grief Support Group: Ingalls bereavement services sponsors a free grief support group at 2 p.m. every Monday at Ingalls Memorial Hospital, 1 Ingalls Drive, Harvey. Better Breathers Support Group: The Ingalls Better Breathers Club is a free support group that offers education on a variety of topics relating to lung disease and lung health. Breast Cancer Support Group: The Ingalls breast cancer support group will hold its next free meeting 7 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Desser Comprehensive Breast Center at Ingalls Family Care Center, 6701 W. 159th St., Tinley Park. Information: (708) 346-9652.
Total Lipid Profile Testing: Orland Township is hosting total lipid profile testing from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Aug. 15 at Orland Township, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park. Residents can have total cholesterol levels read as well as triglycerides, bad cholesterol and good cholesterol. A 9- to 12-hour fast is required; however, participants should drink water prior to the lipid test. The price of the test is $25 for residents or $30 for non-residents. Healthy Lifestyles Weight Management: The Ingalls Wellness Center’s Healthy Lifestyles Weight Management program is a 12-week weight-loss program designed for adults who want to lose weight, improve their overall health and increase physical activity.
