Weight Loss Program For Youths: Palos Community Hospital offers the Shapedown program, a specialized family-centered program that promotes good nutrition, a healthy self-image and safe short- and long-term weight loss. Led by registered dietitians and fitness experts, the Shapedown class is offered in separate sessions for teens ages 13 to 17 and for children ages 9 to 12. The 12-week session will begin Sept. 11 at Palos Health and Fitness Center, 15430 West Ave., Orland Park. A physician’s consent is required for admission to the Shapedown class. Total Lipid Profile Testing: Orland Township is hosting total lipid profile testing 8:30 to 11 a.m. Sept. 19 at Orland Township, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park. Residents can have total cholesterol levels read as well as triglycerides, bad cholesterol and good cholesterol. A 9- to 12-hour fast is required; however, participants should drink water prior to the lipid test. Cost is $25 for residents or $30 for non-residents. Prepared Childbirth One-Day Class: Silver Cross Hospital will offer a one-day prepared childbirth class from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 21 at Silver Cross Hospital, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Participants will receive instruction from a registered nurse on breathing, relaxation and floor exercise techniques. She also will review the labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum processes.
