FREE PROSTATE SCREENINGS: Silver Cross Hospital, in partnership with Advanced Urology Associates, offers free prostate cancer screenings for men from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday in the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center at Silver Cross Hospital, 1850 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. ALZHEIMER’S AND DEMENTIA SUPPORT GROUP: Hallelujah Temple, 1 Dogwood St., Park Forest, hosts this meeting at 6 p.m. the first Friday of each month. KNEE PAIN: Reservations are required by Monday at (800) 221-2199 for a program featuring an orthopedic surgeon discussing the latest and least-invasive treatments for knee pain. The noon Nov. 6 presentation will be at the Ingalls Family Care Center, 19550 Governors Highway, Flossmoor.

POSTPARTUM SUPPORT: Resources that will allow new mothers to become more knowledgeable about postpartum depression, its causes and available treatment options are available at this free support group. In addition, mothers also will have the opportunity to talk, listen and share their experiences with other women experiencing similar feelings. BORROWING MEDICAL EQUIPMENT: Orland Township Health Services offers a medical equipment loan program to all Orland Township residents as well as unincorporated Orland Township and Tinley Park residents. The Nurses’ Closet allows residents in need to borrow medical equipment including wheelchairs, crutches, canes, walkers, shower equipment and other items for a 60-day period. CPR AND FIRST AID CLASSES: Moraine Valley Community College, 9000 W. BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP: VITAS Innovative Hospice Care offers bereavement support groups to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one. All groups are free and offer day and evening sessions. A monthly ongoing bereavement support group, Coping With Loss, is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. the first Thursday and 6:30 to 8 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at the VITAS office, 8525 W. 183rd St., Suite M, Tinley Park. SIGHT IMPAIRED SUPPORT: People who are coping with visual impairment can turn to Orland Area Sight Impaired Support, which provides support and independent living workshops. PREPARED CHILDBIRTH 3-DAY CLASS: A three-week prepared childbirth class will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 7, 14 and 21 at Silver Cross Hospital, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Participants will receive instruction from a registered nurse on breathing, relaxation and floor exercise techniques. She also will review the labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum processes. OPEN HOUSE: Primary Care Professionals physicians host a free open house from 3 to 6 p.m. Nov. 12 in suite 370 of pavilion A on the Silver Cross Hospital campus, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Participants receive complimentary taffy apples, apple cider and other nutritious treats. CROHN’S AND COLITIS SUPPORT: The Illinois Carol Fisher Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America offers a support group for people with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. CAREGIVERS SUPPORT: The Ingalls Center for Outpatient Rehabilitation hosts a monthly caregivers support group to help caregivers connect with others, share ideas, problem solve and receive support to get through the rough times. BREAST-FEEDING CLASS: A certified lactation consultant teaches the basics of breast-feeding including establishing a milk supply, breast pumps and avoiding difficulties from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 13 at Silver Cross Hospital, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. BREAST PROSTHESIS DISPLAY: This display provides women who have undergone a mastectomy the opportunity to evaluate prosthesis options. GRIEF SUPPORT FOR MEN: When it comes to grief, men deal with it differently from women. Ingalls Health System offers the monthly free grief support group Straight Talk for men who have experienced the loss of a spouse or significant other. The free support group meets from 6 to 7 p.m. the third Wednesday of every month in the North Building of Ingalls Memorial Hospital, 1 Ingalls Drive, Harvey. Registration is required. BREAST-FEEDING SUPPORT GROUP: The Silver Cross Birthing Center’s certified lactation consultants host this free group meeting from 10:30 a.m. to noon for English-speaking mothers and 12:30 to 2 p.m. for Spanish-speaking mothers on Nov. 22 in the hospital’s Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Residents can have their blood pressure and blood sugar checked by a registered medical professional. A basic cholesterol screening is offered for $5. The test requires a nine- to 12-hour fast. BARIATRIC SUPPORT GROUP: Silver Cross Hospital in partnership with BMI Surgery hosts this free group for individuals who have undergone weight-loss surgery from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 27 at Silver Cross Hospital, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Registration: (888) 660-4325 or silvercross.org.
