Grief Support For Men: Ingalls Health System offers the monthly free grief support group Straight Talk for men who have experienced the loss of a spouse or significant other. Men deal with grief differently from women. The free support group meets from 6 to 7 p.m. the third Wednesday of every month in Ingalls Memorial Hospital’s North Building, 1 Ingalls Drive, Harvey. Bereavement Support Group: VITAS Innovative Hospice Care offers bereavement support groups to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one. All groups are free and offer day and evening sessions. A monthly ongoing bereavement support group, Coping With Loss, is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. the first Thursday and 6:30 to 8 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at the VITAS office, 8525 W. 183rd St., Suite M, Tinley Park. Sight Impaired Support: People who are coping with visual impairment can turn to Orland Area Sight Impaired Support, which provides support and independent living workshops. Pulmonary Support: A free group for individuals battling a lung disease such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or emphysema and patients on oxygen or experiencing shortness of breath meets from 1:30 to 3 p.m. the third Monday of each month in the Advocate Christ Medical Center Conference Center, 4440 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn. Prenatal Class: Silver Cross Hospital will offer a free Prenatal Childbirth class for expectant mothers with Medicaid or no insurance. The two-session class will be from 6 to 9 p.m. April 22 and 29 at Silver Cross Hospital, Pavilion A, Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Wellness Wednesday: Orland Township hosts this from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. April 23 in the Orland Township Activity Center, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park. An appointment is necessary. Residents can have their blood pressure checked for no charge and glucose levels checked by a registered medical professional for $5. A basic cholesterol screening is offered for $5, and the test requires a nine- to 12-hour fast. Appointments: (708) 403-4222.

Breastfeeding Class: A certified lactation consultant will teach the basics of breastfeeding, including establishing a milk supply, breast pumps, avoiding difficulties and more, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. April 23 at Silver Cross Hospital, Pavilion A, Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Midlothian Turnpike, Suite 25, Crestwood, will host a free, adults-only parent class explaining the prerequisites needed for a young child to achieve normal speech and language skills. Senior CPR Class: Orland Township, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park, will host a free senior CPR class for residents 55 and older at 1 p.m. May 13. The class will be led by an instructor from the Orland Fire Protection District, and certification cards will be distributed upon completion. To reserve a seat, call (708) 403-4222 by May 9.

Health Fair Screenings: Loyola Medicine’s mobile unit will be at Orland Township, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 22 to conduct heart disease, stroke and aneurysm screenings. The following six tests will be available for $179: echocardiogram (ECHO) ultrasound test, electrocardiogram (EKG), hardening of the arteries (ASI) test, stroke/carotid artery ultrasound test, peripheral arterial disease (PAD) test, and the abdominal aortic aneurysm ultrasound. Wellness Program Vouchers: Orland Township residents in need of medical services may purchase a discounted wellness program voucher at Orland Township, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park, during office hours. Proof of residency is required. The wellness program offers services such as adult and children’s physicals, podiatry screenings, dental screenings, dental examinations, cleanings and X-rays, nutrition consultations, vision examinations and chiropractic examinations at up to a 50 percent discount. Children’s Vaccinations: Orland Township, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park, recently gained approval from the Illinois Department of Public Health to provide immunizations to local underinsured children at its monthly immunization clinic. Vaccines are available to children 18 and under who are either uninsured, underinsured, Medicaid-eligible (includes All Kids), Native American or Alaskan Native. With valid proof of Orland Township residency, vaccines are free. For children residing outside of the township’s boundaries, a $20 administration fee per vaccine will be collected. An up-to-date shot record is mandatory to receive any vaccine, and children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Available children’s vaccines include DTaP, DTaP-Hep B-IPV, DTaP-IPV-Hib, DTaP-IPV, Hep A, Hep B, Hep B-Hib, HPV, Meningococcal, MMR, IPV, Pneumococcal, Rotavirus, Tdap and Varicella. Adult vaccines are offered to Orland Township residents only and are available at a discounted rate. Adult vaccines include HPV, Pneumococcal, Hep A, Tuberculosis, Hep B, Tdap, IPV, Meningococcal, Hep A-Hep B, MMR, Typhoid and Shingles. Proof of residency is required.
