Fire Up a Cure: Local firefighters will raise money to help fight pediatric cancer at The Cure It Foundation’s third annual Fire Up A Cure event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 26 at St. Xavier University, 3700 W. 103rd St. The event is open to the public. Fire Up A Cure will bring together firefighters statewide to compete in a series of challenges to raise awareness and funding for pediatric cancer clinical trials and for local children battling cancer. Events will include a fire truck pull, a hot wing-eating contest, an obstacle course, inflatable jousting, tug-of-war and more. Pediatric cancer patients will serve as honorary coaches. There also will be food vendors and entertainment. Children’s activities will include an inflatable fire truck slide, obstacle course, fire pole, fire trucks to explore, face painting, photo booth and a balloon artist. A disc jockey will provide music and there will be performances by local dance troupes, cheerleading squads and a magician.
