Siegel’s Cottonwood Farm, 17250 Weber Road, Crest Hill, will host the Red Neck 3K Run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 12 to benefit wounded warriors. It is not a normal run. The day will start with a down-home “redneck” obstacle course/run, testing participants’ physical skills. They will run through tires, slither like a snake through the mud, jump over giant hay bales, navigate a rope maze and more. The run will consist of 15- to 30-minute heats. There will be team and individual competition events. Local first-alert staffs, fitness centers and hospital staffs have been challenged to face each other. There also will be contests such as longest beard, best redneck outfits, tug-of-war and more, plus food and beverages. An “after party” will feature a local band, “Summer Son,” known for playing country plus Bob Marley and Jimmy Buffet music. Horse shoes and bean bags also will be available. For more information, contact Kaity Siegel at (815) 741-2693; email firstname.lastname@example.org, or visit www.cottonwoodfarms.net/redneck-run-event to register as well.
