Updated: September 15, 2014 6:42AM

Picnic to Benefit Veterans: The Will County Disabled American Veterans will host their annual picnic fundraiser from noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 23 at the New Lenox VFW, 323 Old Hickory Road. The cost is $10 per person. Kids 17 and under eat free. The price includes food, beer, pop and entry into a cash drawing. Tickets are available at the VFW or at the door. There also will be raffles, a 50/50 drawing, a disc jockey and karaoke. Tables and chairs under a covered pavilion will be wheelchair-accesible. The Will County Disabled American Veterans assist veterans by donating money to the Will County Veteran Assistance Commission for dental care, health care and need-based requests. The DAV also has provided funds for Christmas dinners for veterans, as well as the children’s Christmas fund to provide gifts for children of veterans. Financial support also is provided to the Manteno, Hines and Jesse Brown veterans facilities to allow hospitalized veterans to buy items and haircuts without using their own limited funds. For more information or to donate, contact Joe at (815) 726-4911 or Lou at (815) 726-8084.
