Alzheimer’s Disease Seminar: Orland Township is hosting a free seminar, “Introduction to Alzheimer’s Disease”, at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Orland Township, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park. The seminar will be led by an Ingalls Health System neuropsychologist as well as a volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Association. A variety of Alzheimer’s disease related topics will be discussed, including the differences between Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia, the 10 warning signs of the disease and the different support options available. Weight Management: The Ingalls Healthy Lifestyles Weight Management program is a 12-week series for overweight adults that includes two low-fat cooking classes along with support, motivation and shopping tips. Survivorship Group: A free support group meeting which includes speakers on a variety of survivorship topics and resources will meet 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Conference Center open dining area at Advocate Christ Medical Center, 4440 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn. One-Day Childbirth Class: A one-day weekend childbirth education class is set for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and again on Jan. 22 at Advocate Christ Medical Center, 4440 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn. Cost is $95 per couple. Registration: (800) 323-8622, code 1B11.

Birthing Class: Palos Community Hospital is offering its birthing preparation class, “Birth, Babies and Beyond,” led by certified childbirth educators from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Palos Community Hospital, 12251 S. 80th Ave., Palos Heights. KidFit Camp: KidFit Camp is a unique, interactive weight management program designed to help youth ages 9 to 12 and their parents establish safe, healthy nutrition and lifestyle habits. The next eight-week session of KidFit Camp begins at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Ingalls Wellness Center located at the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet Club, 2920 W. 183rd St., Homewood. Weight Loss: A new weight loss support group will meet at The Center, 12700 Southwest Highway, Palos Park, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays. Lynn McLaughlin will lead the discussion of Marianne Williamson’s book “Course in Weight Loss,” which contains 21 spiritual lessons for learning to love yourself. Stop Smoking: The Ingalls Wellness Center, 2920 W. 183rd St., Homewood, will offer its “Freedom From Smoking” program starting Tuesday. The eight-session program, which meets 5:30 to 7 p.m. and was developed by the American Lung Association, addresses many aspects of quitting including dealing with roadblocks, Nicotine replacement, prescription medications, weight gain, stress management and alternatives to smoking. Weight Loss Program: The Palos Health and Fitness Center, 15430 West Ave., Orland Park, is offering a 12-week weight loss program. Shapedown is a family-centered program that promotes nutrition, a healthy self-image and safe short- and long-term weight loss. Led by registered dietitians and fitness experts, the class is offered in separate sessions; one for teens, ages 13 to 17 and another for children, ages 9 to 12. The 12-week session begins Jan. 18. Healthy Eating Organically: Orland Township is hosting “Healthy Eating Organically” from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Jan. 18 at Orland Township, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park. A registered dietitian will be on hand to discuss different ways to shop and cook organically on a budget. Delivery Options: Advocate Christ Medical Center, 4440 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn, will offer a childbirth education class during which couples will learn about unexpected outcomes, assisted delivery, epidurals, infant complications, inductions and reasons for a cesarean section. Emergency Bracelets for Sale: Orland Township residents may purchase a stainless-steel bracelet for $10 or gold bracelet for $12, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday at the Orland Township building, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park. Each bracelet is identified by a number and contains a slip of paper in which to include vital information. During the time of purchase, a form must be filled out containing the bracelet identification number, contact information, allergies, medical conditions and any medications the bracelet user is currently taking. This paperwork will be kept on file at the Orland Township office in case of emergency. Information: www.orlandtwp.org.
