Reel Men Chili Cook Off: The Reel Men of New Life Church, 500 Gougar Road, New Lenox, will host a chili cook off noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 2 with proceeds benefiting the Reel Men’s Kids Fishing Outing held in every summer. Day of Renewal: Living Word Lutheran Church, 16301 Wolf Road, Orland Park, will host a Women’s Day of Renewal 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 2. The Rev. Karl E. Pre-Civil War Quilts: Peace Community Church Women’s Breakfast Connection will host a program on pre-Civil War quilts and their hidden codes to the freedom of slaves through the Underground Railroad by Clarice Boswell at 9 a.m. Feb. 2 at the church, 21300 S. Phoebe’s Closet: The Theodora Mayo Women’s Missionary Society on behalf of Mayo African Methodist Episcopal Church will open Phoebe’s Closet 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first Saturday of the month at the church, 20839 Homeland Road, Matteson. Super Bowl Party: St. Patricia Parish, 9050 S. 86th Ave., Hickory Hills, will host its 30th annual Super Bowl party fundraiser at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 3. Redefining Diversity: B’nai Yehuda Beth Sholom, 1424 W. 183rd, Homewood, is hosting a community forum and discussion on “Redefining Diversity: Race, Religion and Identity in a Multi-Cultural World” presented by Jeanne McInerney at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 3. The free program will explore new ways to examine identity in a world where the boundaries of race, culture and identity are continually shifting, according to program planners. McInerney, former director of development for Healing Racism Chicago Southland, is an adjunct professor of sociology for Governors State University and is president of Align 20/20. Anniversary: Peace Lutheran Church, 1900 E. Lincoln Highway, New Lenox, will celebrate its 25th anniversary Feb. 9 through March 10. Special observances, refreshments, displays and programs will be held at worship services at 5 p.m. Feb. 9 and 8:30 and 11 a.m. Feb. 10. A talent show, followed by a catered dinner will be March 10. Ash Wednesday: First Presbyterian Church of Homewood joins with First Presbyterian Church of Chicago Heights for an Ash Wednesday service at 7:30 p.m. Feb.13 in the sanctuary at 900 Thomas St., Chicago Heights. The service will include communion and the imposition of ashes. The Wednesday evening Lenten series theme of “Behold My Servant” will be introduced. Information: (708) 481-3754.
Ashes To Go: From 6:30 to 8:15 a.m. on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 13, Pilgrim Faith United Church of Christ of Oak Lawn will offer “Ashes to Go” at the Oak Lawn train station during the morning commute. The Rev. Peggy McClanahan will impose ashes on the foreheads of anyone who asks to receive them. She will be assisted by Joe Wachowski and Ron Stancik. Pilgrim Faith also will have an Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. at the church, 9411 S. 51st Ave. The service includes times of reflection, confession and communion around the theme “Relish the Feast.” The service does not include imposition of ashes.
Lenten Fish Fry: St. Benedict Church, 2339 York St., Blue Island, will host its Lenten Fish Fry Feb. 15 and 22, and March 1, 8, 15 and 22. Lunch hours are 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dinner hours are 4 to 7:30 p.m. Carry out is available. Cost is $9 for adults, $3 for children 3 to 12 and $1 for children younger than 3. The entrance to the church hall is on Gregory Street.
Black History Ball: Hallelujah Temple, 1 Dogwood St., Park Forest, is hosting a Black History Ball at 6 p.m. Feb. 16. The event will feature performances and musical tributes for youths and adults to learn more about African-American history. Tickets are $10. Information: (708) 503-6536.

Crafters/Vendors Wanted: Pilgrim Faith United Church of Christ, 9411 S. 51st Ave., Oak Lawn, will be holding a spring Craft/Vendor Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 9. Besides 25 crafters and vendors, a raffle, lunch and coffee will be available for purchase. The proceeds from this event will help to send their high school students to their annual mission trip.
