Stroke Awareness Fair: Ingalls Health System is hosting a free Stroke Awareness Fair 10 a.m. to noon May 11 at the Ingalls Family Care Center, 19550 Governors Highway, Flossmoor, to educate the community about the risk factors, signs and symptoms of stroke, the third leading cause of death in the U.S. Highlights of the family event include blood pressure, body mass index and weight screenings; education about stroke risk factors and prevention; mini-massages; a stroll on the health center’s marked walking path; kids’ activities; healthy snacks and raffles. Participants also can purchase edible planters for last-minute Mothers Day gifts. Ingalls is a Certified Primary Stroke Center, a designation held since 2006. Heart Screenings: MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island is offering a heart and circulation screening for $40. The “Healthy Heart Exam includes an EKG-monitored exercise test, blood pressure, body mass index and laboratory tests that include total, HDL and LDL cholesterol levels, triglycerides and glucose levels. Mammography Screenings: During May, the Silver Cross Center for Women’s Health is offering digital screening mammograms for $100 for those who prefer to pay at time of appointment; otherwise insurance will be billed. Patients also can choose to have an hour massage performed by a licensed massage therapist immediately following their appointments for $50. In addition, patients will receive a free I Matter reward card for discounts at local businesses.
