Police are searching for a suspect involved in the shooting death of a 19-year-old Homewood man Tuesday night.

Henry Kormoi was shot near his home at 11:08 p.m. in the 1100 block of 187th Street. He was transferred to Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest where he was pronounced dead at 11:47 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy showed that Kormoi died of a gunshot wound to the head and his death was ruled a murder.

Police said Kormoi knew his shooter. The South Suburban Major Crimes Taskforce and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services Division are assisting Homewood police with the investigation.

Kormoi’s oldest brother, Sam Kormoi, declined to comment.

“Yes, he was a good kid and he had aspirations,” Sam Kormoi said. “At this point, the family is still grieving.”

According to police, Kormoi was charged with marijuana possession and delivery of marijuana after police saw him make a hand-to-hand transaction with another man on June 14 at Riegel Road and Ashland Avenue. Police said Kormoi was riding on a bicycle and stopped to make the transaction.

When police exited their squad car, the two men attempted to run way but were taken into custody shortly thereafter.
