Speak Out for June 30, 2013
Thank goodness for Pace. Some of us don’t have reliable cars or any type of vehicle to get us from one place to another. Pace helps plenty of people traverse the Southland safely and efficiently.
Way to go, Chicago Blackhawks! This was a storybook ending to a great season. Congratulations to the 2013 Stanley Cup champions.
Remember the 1960s? Those were the best years of our lives. Gasoline cost 27 cents, diesel fuel cost 20 cents, a gallon of milk cost 59 cents, an eight-pack of cola cost 29 cents, etc. You could go to a movie for $1.50. You couldn’t go wrong. You may not have lived great but you lived decently. Politicians are killing us with taxes, taxes and more taxes every day. They are taking money out of your pocket and receive fat paychecks and pensions. Enough is enough!

People used to work for their assistance. Men cleaned the parks, streets and other city properties while women were lunch monitors, teachers’ aides and clerical staff. You volunteered and received your check. If you didn’t, then you didn’t get your check. The only individuals who didn’t have to work for their assistance were those who were either physically or mentally unable to do so. It killed two birds with one stone. The state of Illinois could fill much-needed positions without having to worry about balancing their books while people who collected assistance could be proud they worked for their checks.

So celebrity chef Paula Deen gets fired from her job for using the N word years ago. Why isn’t U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush fired for using the term “‘elitist white boy solution” when referring to U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk’s plan to deal with the Gangster Disciples?
Being a Democrat does not necessarily make them any more democratic than anyone else on this planet.

Why does Tinley Park Mayor Ed Zabrocki want to bring the Chicago Cubs to Tinley Park? Are you out of your mind? We already have a better baseball team here in Tinley Park. They are called the Tinley Park Bulldogs.
Who ever heard of throwing money into a failing entity? But I think that is what we do when we put money into the public school system. It has been happening for years. Someone with a business background needs to go over what is being done, clean house and then restructure it. I am sick and tired of baby steps being taken. Knuckle up, fix this mess once and for all and let’s be done with it.
I think people on bikes getting hit by cars is like girls getting pregnant and blaming the guy. It’s your body, girls. If you don’t want to get pregnant then protect yourself. People on bikes are going to get really hurt if they are hit by a car, but the person in the car is going to be fine. A biker weighs about 200 pounds but the car weighs 3,000 pounds. Bikers need to be more careful. Bikers can be much too reckless especially in the suburbs with all of the bike trails.
A Speak Out commenter stated that some Link card users can’t afford food but can spend $300 for a tattoo. When I got my tattoo I was not a Link card holder, but I am now because I lost my job. Additionally, my tattoo did not cost me $300. It cost far less, as a matter of fact. Get your facts straight.
Former President Bill Clinton and his wife, former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, along with current U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry worked relentlessly to expedite the release of actor James Gandolfini’s body to be sent back to the United States from Italy in order to avoid the red tape and make it easier for the family. It makes me wonder if one of the four viciously murdered Americans in Benghazi, Libya, had been a movie star or any entertainer from Hollywood, would they have waited weeks to respond with a too-little-too-late investigation?
It was a great idea to have an audit in Hazel Crest. I think a full and large audit should be completed in Alsip. Something is just not right.
Anna from Alsip
Three cheers for the Stay-At-Home Dad column. Howard A. Ludwig’s old-fashioned and common-sense approach to parenting is a refreshing alternative to the celebrity parents often highlighted in the media. Bubba and Peter are two very lucky boys.

I would like to write a letter to Forum and sign my name, but I’m still scared of the Internal Revenue Service. I think they have ruined people’s live by judgments that have come down. Every day you read about abuse and the waste of taxpayers’ money. Who is going to hold them accountable? I just wish someone would hold every one of these crooks responsible just like they have come down on us little people.
Gullible? God help this next generation. When they hear, “I’m from the government and I’m here to help you,” they believe it.

I’ve read Speak Out for years and I think I’ve read the most ignorant comment ever. Someone complained that President Obama’s children don’t have any military service. Um, maybe that’s because they are underage?
Congress takes on a problem and talks and wastes time for months and sometimes years. For goodness’ sake, if it’s broken then find ways to fix it. The next thing you know, they are gone for spring break or out for the summer and back in the fall with nothing done. It’s all just a lot of media attention.
