Speak Out for Aug. 20, 2013
General manager Rick Hahn and manager Robin Ventura are taking the blame for the lackluster Chicago White Sox. Wait. Kenny Williams put this team together and he got promoted?

Regarding unsightly homes: Your home is likely the biggest investment of your life. Why would you not maintain it? Lawn and flower beds filled with weeds, grass not mowed, trees not trimmed with some dying, paint peeling on the garage and house, etc. Don’t let your home become an eyesore to the rest of the neighborhood. Take some pride in ownership.
To the people who think minimum wage should be $15 per hour: Those jobs are meant to be a starting point, not to support a family. As you master the skills you can get a higher-paying job. Keep pushing the increase. You’ll see fast-food places with ordering kiosks and less jobs. If you feel so strongly that everyone make $15 an hour, here’s the same advice I’d give those who think we need to pay more taxes. There’s nothing stopping you from paying more. Next time you go to McDonald’s give the person extra money so you can feel good.
If anyone wondered why former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. never wanted people to know he was treated for mental illness, read the comment about the Millikin University professor who, as a mentally ill teenager, killed his family. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity, successfully treated and became a contributing member of society for nearly 40 years. But his morals are questioned by someone who doesn’t even know him. I thought God, through Jesus, taught us to forgive and not judge others. The commenter brought up God to justify their comment. Score another one for hypocritical believers.
As long as you are spending my money that comes out of my paycheck, it is my business. If you don’t want people in your business, then you pay for all your own bills. You have no rights to privacy as long as you’re on the public dole.
Thank the lawyers? In attempts to restore some kind of civility to society or curb criminal activity at any level, is there anything that can be done without some lawyer challenging it? To make matters worse, they’re usually supported by some judge. The result has been a world where common sense, respectfulness and personal responsibility are things of the past.
I was in Chipotle Mexican Grill on Aug. 17 when a motorcycle-car accident happened, and it was bad. Within two minutes there were fire, police and paramedics on the scene. Those of you who think we have too much government, this is democratic socialism. We all pool our money together to pay for services that would be too expensive for any normal individual. By the way, they were all traveling on a public highway.
The media is at it again. They are starting a campaign to put former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in office as president. The media put Barack Obama into office by giving him a king’s status. Obama could do no wrong in the media. They will show Clinton as a queen. I guess they will ignore her many scandals like Whitewater and Benghazi.
Safe passage? What a joke! Every parent in these Chicago school districts should be ashamed. If you want safe passage to school then pass a law that every gangbanger convicted of a crime gets no entitlements like Link cards; housing; Women, Infants, and Children benefits; Medicaid or Social Security for the rest of their lives.

Figures lie, liars figure. Case in point, the Wal-Mart commercial vs Jewel. I can get milk for $1.99 and other items at Jewel and beat Wal-Mart. It just depends on what you buy. Plus, I don’t have to deal with the Wal-Mart experience. The Oak Forest Jewel is a nice, clean store. I think Wal-Mart has put so many businesses out of business and has sent many jobs overseas with its ironfisted pricing policies. I won’t shop there.
I don’t know what all fanfare for the Chicago Air & Water Show was about. We have an air and water show all year with the hot air coming from our politicians and their tears of remorse when convicted for their malfeasance.

It’s not my place to judge. I don’t know what’s going on in people’s lives so I say a prayer for them. How does my belief that marriage is between a man and a woman make me a homophobe? I thought civil unions were wonderful ways for homosexuals to gain the same legal rights as married couples. I’ve been hurt by the hate toward Christians that spews from my homosexual friends. I don’t hate gay people. Jesus teaches me to love my brother. I take those words to heart. I pray one day we can love and respect one another.

We need out-of-state judges to judge Illinois politicians because it seems like everyone owes everyone else in Illinois politics. I don’t trust any of them anymore. It’s disgusting.
In the information age, ignorance is a choice. I think racism and bigotry are ignorance on display.
In response to the criticism of my Lollaplooza comment, you would be wrong. I’m in my mid-40s. I’ve been to many more concerts at this time in your life, and if the main band is the Cure, then I know for a fact it is overrated and overhyped.
