Autistic girl found safe in New Lenox Twp.
NEW LENOX TOWNSHIP — A bloodhound and a helicopter were used to find a missing 10-year-old autistic girl Monday.
Will County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said relatives called police around 11 a.m. after the child left her home in the 800 block of Lenox Road.
Police emailed the media to put information about the search online and used a Lake County helicopter to search the area, but modern technology wasn’t as effective as animal instinct.
About an hour after police were called, a bloodhound from the New Lenox Fire Protection District was able to find the girl in a tree about a block from her house, Hoffmeyer said.
The child was not injured.
The bloodhound tracked the girl’s scent and she was found still in the area, police said.
