High School Sports Roundup for Aug. 20, 2013
Lemont 167, Evergreen Park 197: Medalist Ben Groselak fired a 2-over 38 for Lemont in the South Suburban dual. Matt Groebe chipped in for the Indians with a 42 at Cog Hill No. 1.
Oswego Invitational: The nine-team meet at Blackberry Oaks in Bristol was contested under the Stableford scoring system. Lincoln-Way East had 75 points in capturing the team championship. The Griffins also produced the individual winner in Jake White, who totaled 32 points over nine holes. His teammate, Matt Contey (18), came in third. Oswego (56) was second and Yorkville (52) third.
T.F. South Invitational: Sandburg (316) edged Bradley by five strokes for the team crown at Balmoral Woods. Marian Catholic (334), Brother Rice (339) and Oak Forest (342) rounded out the top five in the 17-team event. The champion Eagles were led by Nick Adduce (77) and Mike Misheck (79), who finished third and fifth, respectively. Bradley’s Kyle Dwyer earned medalist honors by defeating Beecher’s Michael Barber in a scorecard playoff after both had posted rounds of 4-over 76.
Lemont 181, Oak Forest 235: Laura Ringo, of Lemont, led all golfers with a 41 in the South Suburban dual. Bridget Lynn tacked on a 42 for the Indians at Woodbine. Katie Maurer (55) paced Oak Forest.
Mother McAuley 200, Wheaton St. Francis 217: Medalist Taylor Craven shot a 48 to propel Mother McAuley at Catigny in Wheaton.
New Trier quadrangular: Nina Nicpon posted a 93 to lead Marian Catholic (400), which finished third behind New Trier (329) and St. Charles North (346).
Bishop McNamara Invitational: Medalist Alyssa Newling shot a 1-under 37 in guiding Providence (172) to a first-place finish at Oak Springs in St. Anne. Anna Goggins, Alyssa Gromala and Arianna Beller added 45s for the Celtics. Bradley (197) was second and Bloomington Central Catholic (201) third in the seven-team meet.
