A request to open a new bar and grill in Chicago Ridge has been sidelined by the village board until parking questions are answered.

The board has tabled a request for a business license to open The Crossings Bar & Grill at 10236 S. Ridgeland Ave., home of the former Bearhawks Sports Bar & Grill.

The cause for concern, Chicago Ridge Village Clerk George Schleyer said, is parking. Or rather a lack of parking.

“The problem is we have issues with parking. We’re not quite sure there’s enough parking on that corner for that particular bar,” Schleyer said.

“The (applicant) has talked to owners of body shops across the street, about using their parking after hours for the bar’s customers,” he said.

Ridgeland Avenue is a busy north-south thoroughfare that runs through Chicago Ridge.

“We have a problem with patrons coming out of the bar — and I’m not saying everyone coming out is intoxicated — but we are concerned about people darting across that street to their cars,” Schleyer said.

If the site were on the same side of Ridgeland as the body shops, and a parking plan was worked out, there would probably be “no problem” with the application, he said.
