The Alsip Chamber of Commerce held its 27th annual auction Thursday evening at the Apollo Park Recreation Center, 12521 S. Kostner Ave.

Items up for auction included restaurant coupons from local eateries, and merchandise from local businesses that included a computer printer, paper shredder, ceiling fans, slow cookers and an outdoor fire pit.

Tickets for free admission were provided by the Field Museum, the White Sox and Medieval Times. of Schaumburg.

Chamber executive director Mary Schmidt said that all auction proceeds “will benefit all of our programs, such as student scholarships, and our annual Christmas holiday party that provides food and toys for local needy families.”

Auction attendees Daryl Glaz and his son Jackson were planning on bidding on a few coupon packages provided by local restaurants.

“We’re looking to bid on coupons from some of the places we would probably go to anyway, so we may as well save a few bucks,” Daryl Glaz said.

Organizers of the event hoped to raise $5,000.
