Robert Spillane put Fenwick (6-1) ahead 13-7 on an 8-yard TD run in the fourth quarter, but a high snap forced holder Jimmy Donahue to throw an incomplete pass on the 2-point conversion attempt. The Celtics (4-3) scored five plays later on QB Justin Hunniford’s 43-yard scoring pass to Garwood.

THE STAR

Dominic Lagone rushed for 138 yards on 23 carries, and Providence outrushed Fenwick 103-34 in the first half. Lagone (5 catches, 56 yards) caught a 4-yard TD pass with 37.2 seconds left in the first quarter for the game’s first score.

Providence led 7-0 at halftime, but the teams combined for 27 points in the fourth quarter. Defensive lineman Jeff Cesario added an insurance touchdown for the Celtics with 2:27 remaining when he intercepted Gino Cavalieri’s pass for a 16-yard touchdown return.

QUOTABLE

“It was a naked right (play). The (defender) came up and (Hunniford) floated the pass. We don’t complete that one very often.” — Garwood on the game-winning catch
