LOCKPORT TOWNSHIP — A man died Friday after apparently being crushed by a backhoe, officials said.

Lockport Township Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Paul Hertzmann said that shortly after noon, a neighbor called 911 after seeing the victim in a yard on Renwick Road near Borio Drive.

Hertzmann said the property is used as both a residence and farm for riding horses.

“We found a man pinned between the rear bucket and a raised outrigger on one side of the older machine,” Hertzmann said. “We don’t know how long he’d been there.”

The man was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where he was pronounced dead, Will County Coroner Patrick K. O’Neil said. O’Neil said the victim’s identity would be released after his family had been notified.

The Will County Sheriff’s police are investigating the incident.
