All the local TV stations had reporters out on the streets during the storm conducting interviews with people on the streets of Chicago and surrounding suburbs. All were bundled up in oversized heavy winter coats, hats, gloves and face masks to keep warm from the wind and 20-degree weather. Then the “fool” was interviewed, dressed in perforated black and white nylon Chicago White Sox shorts, flip-flops over black socks and a lightweight jacket that was unzipped. When the reporter asked about the man’s attire, the man just smiled and repeated twice, “Every day is summer.” What is wrong with people?

About Founding Father Thomas Jefferson and equal opportunity granted by God: I think equal opportunity in the United States is a fallacy. I believe growing up poor and a minority puts you at a disadvantage and growing up rich and white puts you at an advantage.
After his appearance on “Sunday NFL Countdown,” former Chicago Bears head coach Mike Ditka can now advertise NoDoz so he can stay awake on ESPN.
A driving update: On a previous weekend, there were drivers without headlights on during the storm. This past week, the hubby and I were coming home from 95th Street and Roberts Road to 79th Street and Oketo Avenue. We counted 11 vehicles with one headlight, not two as required by law. It was more lawbreakers. Maybe they were listening to the Wallflowers’ CD with the song “One Headlight.” Back in the day, we called them “padiddles,” a Boston term.

Ernie from Markham lists all of President Obama’s so-called cover-ups that he heard. I don’t think Obama is perfect by any means, but this comment is unfair and just repeats propaganda. I think to say that we are all going to have sticker shock with the Affordable Care Act is just not true. I know many people who have benefited from this law by getting lower premiums and a more comprehensive policy regardless of health problems. I wonder if Ernie recalls President George W. Bush’s term. Does the term “weapons of mass destruction” ring a bell?
In Dec. 19’s Forum, Illinois Retired Teachers Association president Gary Elmen said his group was going to sue over the pension deal Illinois hammered out. Once again, a person who receives the benefits doesn’t say, “Where is the money going to come from?” Why sue politicians? I think they have no authority to “redistribute” other people’s money to you. The politicians have no more rights than anyone else. If I cannot tax my neighbor because I have a poor pension, elected representatives cannot either. I think this organization should sue their neighbors because that’s who they want to ante up.
The reason I believed Obamacare was going to reduce my health care costs was because the U.S. president actually said it to the American people. I know since then that his word has been questioned. I thought we could rely on President Obama’s words.
The cashier’s job is often to ring you up as fast as they can and get to the next customer. If they can only take a few seconds and ask for another piece of identification, then this would help put a stop to the credit card scams.

Someone on the news complained because they’re stuck at the airport and not getting any free vouchers. Hey, it’s the weather’s fault that your flight was cancelled genius, not the airlines. It’s winter. You have to expect problems in the winter.
According to some recent commenters, Gallup Poll results must be phony or unreal. Just because you don’t agree with the results or don’t know anyone who participates doesn’t make the data false or invalid. My husband and I participate in monthly Gallup polls on topics including politics, economics, religion, world governments, automobiles, movies and media, lodging, travel, health care, insurance, etc. Like us, the people who participate in Gallup polls are real citizens from all walks of life. Instead of criticizing something you don’t know a lot about, why not visit gallup.com and find out how to become a contributor?

About snowfall: We get hit with over a foot of snow, and nobody really panics. I watch the national news and the newscasters are freaking out because a foot of snow is going to be dumped on New York, Boston and the Washington, D.C. area. Whoop-de-do!
Regarding the trapped ship: I found it very interesting that the reported story in the news that I saw about those scientists trapped in the ice in Antarctica did not report that these scientists were on a global warming mission.
The definition of communism is a system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single, often authoritarian party holds power, claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people. I think our government controls mortgage and student loans, health care, government motors, welfare, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, unemployment, free cell phone and Internet service, phone surveillance, the Environmental Protection Agency, the education department, and on and on. Tell me this is not communism. And the Democrats run it all. It’s a dream come true.
