Fish Dinner: Our Lady of Loretto Women’s Guild hosts a fish fry from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday (April 11) in the parish hall, 8925 S. Kostner Ave., Hometown. The fish dinner includes one refill of fish and costs $8. The shrimp dinner costs $9. Both dinners include baked or french-fried potatoes, coleslaw, roll and dessert. The meatless pasta dinner costs $7 and includes a salad and dessert. Additional menu items are macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese, homemade soup, cheese sticks and zucchini sticks. Rummage Sale: Grace United Methodist, 12739 Maple Ave., Blue Island, will host a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday (April 11 and 12). There will be jewelry, books, trains, a Hammond organ, a leaded glass cabinet, a huge Mickey Mouse and more.

Rummage and Bake Sale: Faith Lutheran Church, 9701 S. Melvina Ave., Oak Lawn, will hold a rummage and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 12. Everything will be $3 per bag after 1 p.m.

Easter Eggstravaganza: Christ Lutheran Church, 14700 S. 94th Ave., Orland Park, will host an Easter Eggstravaganza at 10:30 a.m. April 12. It will feature a story teller, an egg hunt and refreshments. Some activities will be outdoors.

Throwback Weekend: The Lighthouse Church of All Nations, 4501 W. 127th St., Alsip, will celebrate Palm Saturday and Sunday “throwback style” on April 12 and 13. Lighthouse members will dress in vintage styles from the 1960s, 1970s or 1980s and there will be throwback gospel music and other special surprises. Holy Week Services: Palos Lutheran Evangelical Lutheran Church, 12424 S. 71st Court, Palos Heights, will hold Palm Sunday services at 6:30 p.m. April 12 and 9 and 10:30 a.m. April 13; a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. April 17; a Good Friday Tenenbrae service at 7 p.m. April 18; and Easter services at 7 and 10 a.m. April 20, with a free breakfast for service attendees from 8:15 to 9:45 a.m.

Holy Week Services: Palm Sunday worship at Pilgrim Faith United Church of Christ, 9411 S. 51st Ave., Oak Lawn, will begin with a children’s palm processional at 9:30 a.m. April 13. Children should be present by 9:15 a.m. There will be a Seder supper at 6:30 p.m. April 17, a Community Good Friday service at noon April 18, and Easter worship at 9:30 a.m. April 20, followed by an Easter breakfast open to all.

Holy Week Services: Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, 4955 W. 158th St., Oak Forest, will host its Palm Sunday service, with a re-enactment of the Passion, at 9:30 a.m. April 13. The Meal in the Upper Room, a depiction of the Last Supper, will be at 7 p.m. April 17. There is no cost, but reservations are needed. At 7 p.m. April 18, the Good Friday Tennebrae service of Light & Darkness will take place. The Easter Sunday Resurrection celebration will be at 9:30 a.m. April 20. New Pastor Installation: Immanuel Lutheran Church, 4800 Sauk Trail, Richton Park, will hold an installation service for new Pastor Bryan A. Reeves at 2 p.m. April 13. A light reception will follow the service.

Lecture Series: At 1:30 p.m. April 13, Rachel Havrelock will present “Kings, Queens, Prophets, and Priests: Politics in Ancient Judah and Israel” at B’nai Yehuda Beth Sholom, 1424 W. 183rd St., Homewood. “Two by Two”: Trinity Lutheran Preschool, 9701 S. Brandt Ave., Oak Lawn offers a time for 2-year-olds along with a special adult (Mom, Dad, Grandma, caregiver, etc.) to have fun with storytime, crafts, music, movement and more from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays for four weeks beginning April 23. Beef Dinner and Auction: St. John’s Lutheran Church and School, 4231 W. 183rd St., Country Club Hills, will hold a Spring Beef Dinner and Auction at 6 p.m. April 26 in the school gym. Hunger Walk: The 2014 South Suburban CROP Hunger Walk is slated for May 4, and will begin and end at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2901 Western Ave., Park Forest. Registration begins at 1 p.m., opening ceremonies at 1:35 p.m., and the walk at 2 p.m. Similar fundraisers nationwide make it possible for Church World Service to respond quickly to disasters around the world. Funds also are used to fight hunger locally through seven Southland agencies: Respond Now and Jones Community Center of Chicago Heights, South Suburban PADS, Rich Township Food Pantry, Lansing Food Pantry, Hazel Crest Community UMC Food Pantry, and First-Wesley Academy Hot Meals Program. The Feinstein Foundation will divide $1 million between all organizations accepting the challenge to raise funds during March and April to fight hunger. The amount received from the foundation is based on the amount raised before April 30.
