Speak Out for April 27, 2014
For the person whose husband took a $350 decrease in his pension and thinks the schoolteachers of Chicago should do the same: Might I add that you are working for a trucking union. You get Social Security. The city of Chicago schoolteachers do not receive Social Security and depend strictly on their pension check. How would you like to live on your pension check only and not have any Social Security?
As a former Cubs fan, I wonder where Donnie Murphy is, the guy they brought up last year. Instead they have a bunch of overpaid, underachieving nothings out on the field. Why do people keep going to Wrigley Field?
Pete from Chicago
I work for the school district in New Lenox, and all the employees got a notice in the mail that said due to the Affordable Care Act, you will experience significant increases to your health care premiums. Is anyone else in the other school districts getting these memos? Significant. Not 1 percent or 2 percent, significant. People don’t even know what they voted for and now we are all going to pay the price. Thanks a lot, Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama and Harry Reid.
No wonder our gasoline is so high. Exxon’s CEO, he only made $28 million. And look at the rest of these companies. Talk about disgusting. Talk about a greedy pig. That’s the CEOs.
R.C. from Oak Lawn
What is going on in Flossmoor School District 161? The lack of diversity at the district office is a big concern for me and my wife. Maybe an outside group needs to come in and see why there are so few African-Americans working at the various levels in the district. I pay good taxes for diversity. I am a longtime resident of over 20 years, and I have never seen anything like this.
Did you see or hear anything about the huge event that the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation held? The foundation recently awarded its yearly Lincoln Leadership Prize to filmmaker Steven Spielberg. I believe the award was well-deserved for Spielberg’s production of the movie “Lincoln.” The article and pictures that I saw of the event showed only the heavyweights of the state and Hollywood. I think Mr. Lincoln would have been disturbed to see that none of the common folk were invited to this bash attended by more than 700 people.
Don from Palos Hills
Oscar Pistorius should get the Academy Award for phony hysterics and his pitiful crying during testimony. Talk about a phony. That’s Oscar.
We are becoming chopped liver with Ukraine because we are not more involved in their problems. Sen. McCain stated the administration needs to give them weapons and we are not doing enough. Talk like this only helps them disrespect us as a nation and it needs to stop.
V.J. from Hazel Crest
To Paul: When Republicans are in power, they cut our taxes, strengthen our military, enact policies that encourage a positive business climate for job creation and energy independence. Tell me how any of this doesn’t help the middle class? What has President Obama done to help the middle class? The only thing he accomplished was Obamacare, and we see what a disaster that is turning out to be.
In response to sending the Cubs pitchers to the South Side for attendance: I wish Cubs fans would just worry about the rebuilding project they’ve had going on for the past 100 years. Also, your attendance is down; I’ve seen a lot of empty seats at Wrigley. The Sox management getting rid of a lot of popular players over the years has made Sox fans angry, as have the prices, but if the Sox start winning this summer and the weather gets nice, Sox fans will come back. So just worry about your 100-year-old park that is falling apart.
