Charnelle Reed, 18, of Chicago Heights, is in her fourth season as a guard on the Vikings varsity for Homewood-Flossmoor basketball. She will attend Western Illinois in the fall.

What’s the most fun about playing basketball?

The opportunity to win.

What is your favorite team to play?

Hillcrest, because it’s always very intense. A lot of people come out.

What will you always tell people about playing for Dana Noble?

I like it that he can get as silly as us at practice. He’s not always serious. He knows how to go from a coach to a friend.

If you could have one opposing player on your team, who is it?

It would have to be Morgan Tuck (Bolingbrook). She’s an exceptional player, and she’s one player I could say I’d probably look up to.

What makes girls basketball better than boys basketball?

I feel girls, since we are emotional, it seems like we put more heart into basketball.

You’re cooking a meal for the team. What’s on the table?

No. 1 would be salad. Everyone on our team loves salad. And pasta.

Valentine’s Day is coming up. How many are you sending out?

A lot. Everybody likes to hear from me around that time, because a lot of people tell me I’m very sweet!

Do you have any nicknames?

Everybody calls me Nelly.

Do you have a hidden talent?

I like to write poetry.

Your dream celebrity prom date. Who is it?

Brad Pitt. Of course, he’s very cute and very sophisticated. I would like to get to know him way more.

When you look in the mirror, what does it tell you about yourself?

It tells me that I have somewhere to go, and goals I need to reach.

As told to Tony Baranek
