Here is a look at what Southlanders are accomplishing in college.
News from the SouthtownStar’s east region includes Beecher, Chicago Heights, Country Club Hills, Crete, Glenwood, Monee, Richton Park, Steger, Homewood and Park Forest.
Eastern Illinois University
Several area students have been named to the fall 2011 dean’s list at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Ill.

Kirkwood Community College
Thomas Kremer, of Richton Park, has been named an outstanding student honoree at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
National University of Health Sciences
Omotayo Asunmo, of Glenwood, has received a doctor of chiropractic degree from the National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Ill.
Prairie State College
The speech team at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights has been named national bronze medal winners for the small school division during the Phi Rho Pi National Speech Tournament.
Team members include Nick Williams and Kelli Campbell, both of Homewood; and Adrianna Carr, of Park Forest.
Carr also was named national champion in prose interpretation and national silver medalist in informative speaking. Campell was named national champion in persuasive speaking.
Lake Forest College
Amy Ziems, of Crete, recently presented a research project at the 15th annual Steven Galovich Memorial Student Symposium at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Ill.
St. Xavier University
Dominique Martin, of Chicago Heights, has been awarded the Dr. Lloyd Leake Scholarship. Martin is a student at St. Xavier University in Chicago.
