More than 200 students from 12 area schools recently visited Trinity Christian College to celebrate their achievements and expand their passion for writing and reading during the annual Young Authors Festival.

Illustrator Michael Hays was the guest speaker. In addition to explaining his process for illustrating picture books, Hays treated students to a reading of “Abiyoyo,” a story/song by folk artist Pete Seeger and Hays’ first picture book.

Students were divided into groups and attended three sessions, including the presentation by Hays, small group discussions and improv performances.

Area schools that participated include Calvin Christian in South Holland; Elim Christian Services in Palos Heights; Lansing Christian in Lansing; Southwest Chicago Christian in Oak Lawn; and Southwest Chicago Christian in Tinley Park.
