After having sold out both performances in 2011, South Suburban Family Shelter has been granted rights to produce the original Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” again this year.
The play will take place at 7:30 p.m. June 22 and 4 and 7:30 p.m. June 23 at Prairie State College, 202 S. Halsted St. (at Vollmer Road), Chicago Heights.
South Suburban Family Shelter is a proud participant in the V-Day 2012 campaign.
“V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls through benefit productions of playwright and founder Eve Ensler’s award winning play,” director Jacqueline Canty said.
“V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise funds and revitalize the spirit of existing antiviolence organizations such as South Suburban Family Shelter.”
The production is sponsored by South Suburban Family Shelter in partnership with Prairie State College and Soroptimist International of Illiana.
Tickets are on sale for $15 per ticket and may be purchased by calling (708) 794-2140, Ext. 303 to order and pay for tickets by phone.
Or one can stop by the South Suburban Family Shelter administration office, 18139 Harwood Ave., Homewood.
Regular office hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, but be sure to call ahead to make sure staff are in the office.
All proceeds from “The Vagina Monologues” performances benefit South Suburban Family Shelter and the 2012 Spotlight Campaign for Women and Girls in Haiti.
South Suburban Family Shelter production manager Vicki Meilach warned that “this production contains strong adult content and language and is meant for a mature adult audience.”
