The Crete Public Library’s Adventure Club has “traveled” to many faraway places such as Rome, Australia, Mexico and the United States.
Children’s librarian Judy Richert, creator of the Adventure Club, takes children on a virtual journey by reading books about exotic locales and discussing the culture, foods, language and crafts of the area.
During the Adventure Club, which last an hour, children make crafts, participate in locale-themed activities and taste foods from the area. Richert also weaves into the program themes such as pirates, inventions and tall tales.
“Because Miss Judy taught primary grades in the public school system, she knows what the children enjoy,” said library officials in a news release.
Richert also leads the library’s Toddler Story Time and creates other programs throughout the year.
Crete Public Library is located at 1177 Main St.
