The children’s department at Crete Public Library recently held its seventh annual Paint the Parking Lot event at the library.

Participants painted a portion of the library’s parking lot with flowers, trucks, medallions, portraits and more. Children wore old clothes so that the tempera paints and chalk they used would wash off in a small outdoor swimming pool the library provided for them.

Participant Simon Vanwyhe painted a picture that represented his grandfather’s roofing company, and students Kellie Hoffmeyer, Jenna Duncan and Adriana Wagenveld painted an intricate medallion.

“The children’s department has offered this event for the past seven years with much success,” said library officials in a news release. “The mild weather was perfect for the community to gather and paint a portion of the parking lot.”
