The paintings of Crete resident John Streeter are on display through July at the Crete Public Library.

Streeter, who grew up in Ohio, has been drawing since he was a child.

After college he worked as a color laboratory manager and eventually started Ideal Signs and Graphics Inc., where he produced signs, graphics and commercial art.

Streeter attended the American Academy of Art but primarily is self-taught.

Since retiring, Streeter has more time to paint from photos of animals, landscapes, flowers and the human form.

“Streeter’s works are vibrant with color and inspiration,” said library officials in a news release.
