The Calumet Memorial Park District recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Commissioners Park in Calumet City.

The redesigned park features a new playground, a bean bag area, a pavilion, a walking track, a softball field and handicap access to the Burnham Greenway trail, along with the pre-existing skate bowl.

The redevelopment was provided for by an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Officials who took part in the ceremony included park board commissioner Nyota Figgs, commissioner Randy Velasquez, former commissioner Marty Paliga, vice president Bonnie Rising, president Stan Miller, commissioner Pat O’Meara and Ald. Magdalena Wosczynski (2nd).
