Alex Lopez, the first Hispanic mayor of Chicago Heights, will be memorialized with a park two years after his death.
Alex Lopez Park, located outside the Chicago Heights Park District’s recreation center, 1400 Chicago Road, will be dedicated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. Monday.
The park has one playground for smaller children and one for older children, a district employee said Friday.
Lopez served as park district director before he was named mayor in 2008 to serve out the term of Anthony DeLuca, who had resigned to serve in the Legislature.
Lopez died of a heart attack two years ago Monday.
