WGN News regular Mike Toomey is scheduled to perform at the upcoming Orland Township scholarship fundraiser “Dancing with the Stars” on Oct. 25 at Georgios Banquets, 8800 W. 159th St., Orland Hills.
A favorite at local comedy clubs since 1982, Toomey has appeared in concert with such headliners as George Carlin, Wayne Newton; Crosby, Stills and Nash, and Reba McIntyre. He has performed on various television programs, including HBO’s “U.S. Comedy Arts Festival,” MTV’s “Half Hour Comedy Hour” and A&E’s “Comedy on the Road.”
The competition will include dinner, dessert and entertainment by Mr. and Mrs. “O,” who will also accompany 10 competitors in their performances.
“We are excited to welcome Mike Toomey, as well as all of our talented musicians and judges,” said Orland Township Scholarship Fund president Paul O’Grady. “Mike is a household name in the local comedy field, and his presence will add to the spectacular evening we have planned for our seniors.”
Noncompetitors will vote on the performances alongside three professional judges. They also will have their own time to dance while scores are tabulated.
The winning couple will be awarded a mirror ball trophy. Prizes also will be awarded to the second- and third-place finishers.
Professional dancers Mark and Susan O’Brien, both of whom have been featured on ABC Chicago and WTTW, and Dee Ulrich will lend their services as judges for the competition.
Tickets for residents and nonresidents are $25.
Proceeds will go toward the 2013 Orland Township Scholarship Foundation program.
