Steger School District 194 recently received a fruit and vegetable grant that will provide fresh fruits and vegetables to elementary students a few days a week. Menu items include watermelon, berries, kiwi, sweet potatoes and black grapes.
District officials said the goal of the program is to expose young children to a variety of healthy snacks.
Eastview students will snack on Tuesdays and Thursdays; Parkview students on Mondays and Wednesdays; and Saukview students on Wednesdays and Fridays.
District officials said the program does not replace the healthy fruit and vegetable options available at lunch every day.
