Here’s a look at what’s going on in the Southland.
News from the SouthtownStar’s East region includes Crete and Richton Park.
Library hosts abstract art program
Abstract art was the theme of a recent Art Studio program in Crete Public Library’s children’s department.
Librarian April Heide-Kracik presented a slide show on abstract artists and then demonstrated the technique.
“Painting the animal using just the simplicity of the eyes and nose, plus adding colorful strokes for the body, made an impressive work of art to take home,” a library spokeswoman said.
School selected for History Makers program
Rich South High School recently was selected to participate in a back-to-school program sponsored by the History Makers, a national nonprofit organization that puts black leaders in direct contact with young people across the nation.
As part of the program, guest Ronald Daley met with sophomore, junior and senior males and visited classrooms throughout the day.
