Crete Public Library’s Historical Corner recently housed a collection of garments belonging to Ida Klemme Adams, the grandmother of Carol Perry, of Crete.
Adams was born in 1891, raised her family of six children in Crete and was active in many organizations, including the Crete Women’s Club.
The display included the World War II-era uniform of Ellen West, a lieutenant in the Red Cross Motor Corps who drove damaged military trucks in a convoy to the Great Lakes Military Base for repairs.
The display also included a handmade 1940s-era navy-colored suit with a mink collar and hat, and a 1920s-era two-piece sheer lilac English Tea Dress with matching cloche hat.
“The items give the viewer a peek of the life of a prominent citizen in a small Illinois town around the turn of the last century,” library officials said in a news release.
