Forest preserve wins state conservation award

Updated: March 11, 2013 6:06AM

The Illinois Parks and Recreation Association recently selected the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Land Stewardship Policy as the winner of the IPRA Outstanding Sustainability/Conservation Award.

The district, along with other award winners, was honored at the IPRA’s Soaring to New Heights Conference Awards Luncheon in January in Chicago.

The Forest Preserve’s Land Stewardship Policy brought together the many existing land stewardship programs that the district has successfully implemented over the past 30 years. These delineate nine separate land stewardship programs that are utilized on district lands.

The forest preserve owns and manages more than 21,000 acres of land in more than 70 preserves.
