Marian Catholic High School took top honors at the Illinois High School Association Regional Individual Speech tournament earlier this month at Southland College Prep Charter High School in Richton Park.
Eleven area high schools sent a total of 93 students to the competition.
Marian Catholic won the tournament with 66 points, followed by Thornton (58) and Homewood-Flossmoor (54). Southland College Prep Charter High School (49) finished fourth, and Thornridge (33) was fifth.
Crete-Monee, T.F. South, Bremen, Rich East, Thornwood and Tinley Park also competed.
“These students exhibited extraordinary talent and professionalism in what was truly a daylong competition for excellence waged on our stage and in our performance spaces,” Southland College Prep Charter CEO Blondean Davis said.
Richton Park Mayor Rick Reinbold praised the students for their “high energy, enthusiasm and good sportsmanship exhibited by all the teams at the end of a very long 10-hour competition.”
Marian Catholic also took top regional honors in the “Performance-in-the-Round” category. Thornwood, Homewood-Flossmoor, Southland College Prep Charter and Thornridge earned sectional berths in the same category.
