The late Howard Luckey was the recipient of the 2013 Hall of Honor award for Prairie State College.
The award is given to past employees who made a significant and positive contribution to the Chicago Heights college.
Ed Schwarz, professor of communications, accepted the award on behalf of Luckey’s family.
“Howard gave of himself, his time, his money and his heart to the college. PSC was his family, and we miss him greatly,” Schwarz said. “He would do anything asked of him to help PSC. The college, his students and his colleagues are all richer for having known him.”
Luckey joined the faculty at Prairie State in 1968 and taught in the social sciences department until 1988, at which time he became an adjunct professor.
During his tenure, Luckey supported Phi Theta Kappa and served on the curriculum committee, faculty senate, and the executive council. He was involved with several search committees and a 1998 accreditation subcommittee.
Luckey also gave his time and talent to the PSC Foundation, the 50th Anniversary committee, the PSC Summer Speech Camp, and the Jazz Fest.
Each recipient of the Hall of Honor award receives a plaque, and the college maintains a permanent display of the Hall of Honor award winners.
