The South Suburban College Sustainability Committee and Green Club will host the second annual SSC Earth Awareness Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 17.
Six hourlong presentations on woodcarvers will include utilizing cut trees, the importance of worms, composting, green cleaning and supplies, hydroponics and raised gardening, and environmental issues and the value of trees.
Several vendors will be in attendance promoting “green” products and products made from recycled items.
SSC will collect eyeglasses, cellphones, ewaste and old prescription drugs.
The SSC Student Green Committee will sell “dirt” cupcakes.
The Sustainability Committee was established in 2011 to coordinate SSC’s efforts in sustainability leadership within its community. South Suburban College recently received recognition from Gov. Pat Quinn and the Green Governments Coordinating Council as a “Bronze Level Compact School” within the Illinois Campus Sustainability Compact program.
SSC is at 15800 S. State St., South Holland.
