Charity Briefs (East) for April 7, 2013

Here is a look at some charity news from the Southland.

Items from the SouthtownStar’s East region include Lansing, South Holland, Homewood, Chicago Heights and Flossmoor.

Seeking Car Show Participants: Memorial Junior High School, 2721 Ridge Road, Lansing, is seeking participants for a car show and 5K to benefit the Lansing Food Pantry. The inaugural Mustang 5k Run/Walk Car Show begins with a 5K at 9 a.m. April 13. Cars must be registered in advance to be trophy-eligible. Registration and packet pickup for the 5K will be from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. To register or donate, email lrayappan@d158.net or call (708) 474-2383.

Ruby Anniversary Scholarship Fundraiser: The South Suburban College Foundation will host its Ruby Anniversary Scholarship Fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. April 26. Tickets are $125 and include an open bar, dinner, silent auction, dancing and the music of The Connexion Band. Checks can be made payable to SSC Foundation and mailed to 15800 S. Cell Phone Collection: South Suburban Family Shelter is collecting cell phones for an ongoing fundraiser, and also is seeking schools, businesses or other organizations to volunteer as collection sites. The shelter provides services for victims of domestic violence. Collection sites include the SSFS administrative office, 18139 Harwood Ave., Homewood; Bergstein’s NY Deli, 200 Dixie Highway, Chicago Heights; and Doyle Designed Salon, 2630 Flossmoor Road, Flossmoor.
